SINGAPORE POLYMER CORPORATION COMPLETE MASSIVE NEW FACILITY TO PRODUCE VINYL, TPEs, SPECIALTY COMPOUNDS, AND MASTERBATCHES

Teknor Apex Unit includes 17 lines with Combined Annual Capacity of 70,000 Tons, plus Extensive Technical Service, Laboratory, and Product Development Capabilities.

Singapore Polymer Corporation (SPC) has finished relocating its entire plastics compounding operation to a new Singapore site comprising three completely new manufacturing plants and extensive new technical and sales service facilities.  From this complex, SPC is now supplying processors throughout Asia with vinyl, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), and specialty compounds in the SPC range and that of Teknor Apex, which acquired SPC in 2001.

“The new Singapore Polymer complex is one of the largest, most sophisticated, and most diversified compounding facilities in Asia ,” said Mr. Cheah, Managing Director of SPC.  ‘Besides offering the full range of standard SPC and Teknor Apex products, we are prepared to develop custom formulations tailored to specific applications, support customers by drawing on our new lab capabilities and our experienced team of technicians, and carry out testing required for compliance with standards and regulatory agencies”.

Available from SPC are up to 14,000 Teknor-developed compounds already compliant with codes and standards in the U.S. , Canada , Western Europe, and Japan . “By offering fast regional access to compounds recognized by groups like Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), SPC provides a major advantage to Asian manufacturers that serve booming export markets for wire and cable, potable water system components, medical devices, automotive components, packaging and other products subject to stringent codes and standards,” said Dr Robert S Brookman, Teknor Apex vice president for business development.

New SPC Manufacturing Complex Yields Great Diversity of Plastic Raw Materials

Brought on steam instages over the course of the past 18 months, the new complex replaces an earlier one in Singapore that SPC operated since its founding in l979.  The plants, laboratories, and offices on the new site occupy 28,160m² (300,000 sq. ft.), leaving another 10,540 m² (113, 00 sq. ft.) for possible expansion.

The three plants have a total of 17 compounding lines with a combined nominal annual capacity of 70,000 metric tons (155-million lb.) and are used, respectively, for these ranges:

Laboratories facilities at the new site are equipped for a wide range of property and compliance testing, material analysis, and color matching.  A pilot plant for product development includes a co-rotating twin screw extruder and a Buss Kneader.
